The British Youth Council’s Chief Executive, Jo Hobbs MBE, will leave the charity to move on to a new role in the sector. Jo has led the charity for 8 years, supporting the National Youth Council in its mission to bring young people together to find their voice and use it to improve the lives of others.
Responding to the news, Zara Khan, Chair of the British Youth Council said: “It’s with great sadness that we announce, Jo Hobbs will be stepping down as Chief Executive of the charity. For almost a decade, Jo has been an enthusiastic ambassador of youth voice, championing the importance of making sure decision-makers hear young people’s voices.
“Many of our young people will recognise Jo’s immense contributions to the organisation. We wish her all the best in her new role”.
Jo Hobbs MBE, Chief Executive of the British Youth Council said: “It has been a privilege and honour to lead a charity that has empowered thousands of young people during my tenure.
“Over the years, we’ve been able to highlight many of the issues facing young people and bring about impactful change. It remains a great source of sadness that we’ve been unable to influence even more for young people at a time of great hardship for too many. However, it’s clear through our youth voice network that young people will continue to speak out and make demands of decision-makers.
“I want to thank all of the staff I’ve had the pleasure of working with and our board of trustees who have worked tirelessly to deliver outstanding opportunities for young people to bring about social and political change in our society”
Elsa Cardona, Director of Delivery, will take over from Jo as Interim Chief Executive during this period to help the organisation continue its vital work supporting young people to get involved and make a difference in their communities and democracy locally, nationally, and internationally.
