British Youth Council partner with National Express to launch new youth panel

National Express are launching their first ever youth panel following recomendations published in June 2012 by our Youth Select Committee on public Transport and Young People. National Express is working in partnership with The British Youth Council to launch a youth panel as part of the National Express Youth Promise.

National Express, to date, remains the only transport company to have followed up on the Youth Select Committee’s report on Transport and Young People.

The new National Express Youth Panel will comprise of a maximum of 10 young people, aged 16 years to 25 years.

There will be an aspirational commitment to recruit young people from different geographical areas and cultural backgrounds so long as they meet the criteria.

Tom Stables, Managing Director, National Express UK Coach said: “Millions of young people travel with National Express every year so it is vital we make sure we are fully in touch with the things that matter to them. We’re absolutely committed to working with – and listening to – young people which is why we set up the Youth Promise. Now, we want to appoint our first-ever Youth Panel to make sure we remain on track and I really hope to see representatives from all over the UK on this panel. This is a rare opportunity to influence policy at one of the UK’s best-recognised brands and we hope it is going to offer a springboard to an ambitious young talent.

Chante Joseph, Vice Chair for Participation and Development said: “National Express are leading the way with youth participation – and working with us to ensure a youth voice is heard in their decision making process. As part of our ongoing campaign to make transport more accessible and affordable we d like to see companies follow their example,  but in the meantime   urge young people to step forward and take up this opportunity”
