Alongside being an organisation that provides young people with a platform to raise their voices and influence policymakers on issues that matter to them, the British Youth Council is also a charity. Like any charitable organization, this means it requires funding to continue its work. Without the support of donors, fundraisers and supporters, we simply wouldn’t exist, and there wouldn’t be as many opportunities for young people to be heard on the issues that matter to them.
Here are some ways that you can support the British Youth Council’s fundraising efforts:
BYC Empower
Monthly giving provides a sustainable source of income for the organization – why not become a regular supporter by joining BYC Empower?
You can choose the amount you want to donate each month, and your contribution will go towards supporting the British Youth Council’s efforts to empower young people across the UK.
As a member of BYC Empower, you’ll receive regular updates on the impact of your donation and be invited to exclusive events and opportunities.
Make a one-off donation
Can’t commit to a monthly donation? Why not give us a one-off?
You can make a donation easily through our website. Any amount, no matter how small, can make a real difference in empowering young people to participate in democratic processes and shape the world around them.
Double the donation – double the impact
The Big Give is a seasonal fundarising campaign we participate in every December to make your donation go even further.
All donations made during the challenge period is matched by pledgers, which means that your donation to the British Youth Council during The Big Give has double the impact on the lives of young people in the UK.
Shop through Easyfundraising
Online shopping also takes supporting charities to the next level. Easyfundraising is a website that partners with over 4,000 retailers to donate a portion of the proceeds to the BYC whenever you shop through their site.
All you have to do is sign up for an account, select the British Youth Council as your charity of choice, and start shopping.
You can shop for everything from groceries to clothes, and a percentage will be donated to the British Youth Council without costing you a penny.
Donate your loyalty rewards from The Body Shop
Did you know we’re partnered with The Body Shop on a campaign to lower the voting age to 16? As part of this collaboration, The Body Shop offers Love Your Body Club members the opportunity to support young people’s right to participate in democracy by donating loyalty rewards to the British Youth Council. Opting in for this feature means you can make a meaningful contribution to this campaign and help empower young individuals to actively engage in shaping their future.
Take on challenges
If you’re feeling up for a challenge, you can support the British Youth Council by participating in a challenge event. The British Youth Council has run numerous challenges, such as the gravity-defying Big Leap or the mile-smashing Run 31. Be sure to follow the British Youth Council for news on upcoming fundraising challenges.
Prefer to set your own goals? Why not take on a personal challenge yourself and fundraise for the British Youth Council at the same time? The possibilities are endless – from marathon running to abseiling or organising a bake sale.
You can create a fundraising page on a platform like JustGiving or Facebook, set a fundraising goal, and share your page with your network to encourage donations from your friends and family. A great way to have fun, smash some targets and support youth voice.
Set a birthday fundraiser
Want to fundraise for the British Youth Council without taking part in a challenge? Why not set up a birthday fundraiser on Facebook? Instead of asking for gifts, you can ask your friends and family to donate to your fundraiser page and support youth voice.
Setting up a fundraiser on Facebook is easy.
- Head to your Facebook profile
- Click on “Create Fundraiser”
- Select the British Youth Council as your charity of choice
- Set a fundraising goal.
You can then share the fundraiser with your network. It’s an effortless way to give back on your special day!
Participate in a British Youth Council Programme
Throughout the year, we recruit young people aged 11-25 to join our wide range of programmes.
Young people on our programmes receive training and support for engaging with policy and decision makers, such as those at NHS England or from the Careers & Enterprise Company. Ultimately, engaging with a British Youth Council programme helps to ensure young people’s voices are represented at all levels.
Keep an eye on our website or socials for opportunities.
