Our Parliament, Our VisionPrint

What would you make Parliament do to make your life better?
BYC is gearing up for the next General Election.
A General Election must be held on or before Thursday 3 June 2010. 650 MPs will be elected to the House of Commons to represent people across the UK. These MPs will, along with Peers in the House of Lords, make up the UK Parliament.
BYC wants this new Parliament to put into practice the actions young people know will make their lives better.
It's our Parliament too. We want our vision to inform and influence what it does.
To make sure this happens BYC is going to campaign before the next Election with a General Election Manifesto for all political parties.
This will detail five specific things Parliament must do (new laws they must make, Government work they must examine) to make the lives of everyone aged 25 and under better.
BYC will lobby existing MPs, people who are running to be elected as an MP in the General Election and Peers from the House of Lords to sign up to take these 5 actions once a new Parliament is formed.
Young people across the UK have shaped this General Election Manifesto by submitting their ideas for change in the Our Parliament, Our Vision Survey. These ideas are now being shortlisted by everyone attending BYC Conventions 2009.
Creating a General Election Manifesto
The ideas and votes from the Our Parliament, Our Vision Survey are being shortlisted by young people attending BYC Conventions 2009 (in London, Swansea, Belfast, Glasgow and Leeds) in August 2009.
Delegates from BYC Members at the BYC Annual Council Meeting will then vote for the 5 calls for action which will make up the General Election Manifesto. The Council meets on 5 September 2009.
For more information about this consultation and the General Election Manifesto campaign please email BYC or telephone 020 7022 1974.
