We need radical and urgent targets on Climate Change
Through our Youth Manifesto 2008/09, BYC called for the UK Government to set a target to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 80% through the Climate Change Act.
Following extensive lobbying on climate change by dedicated campaigners across the UK, the Secretary of State for the Department of Energy and Climate Change, Ed Milliband MP, announced in November 2008 that the Government is increasing its target for reductions in greenhouse gas emissions from 60% to 80%. This really shows how campaigning can make a great difference!
BYC will be continuing to support work to sustain a strong Climate Change Act. We will continue to raise awareness of the need to tackle this issue that affects everyone.
Involve us!
Young people need to be involved in discussions and decision-making around climate change. There needs to be spaces available for young people's representation at all levels.
We will be the ones to put in practice the shifts in attitudes and actions need to make an impact. Through having our say and getting active will will bring about change.
