The All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Youth Affairs was established in 1998 to raise the profile of issues that affect and concern young people, encourage dialogue between parliamentarians, young people and youth services, and encourage a co-ordinated and coherent approach to youth policymaking. The group currently has around 70 members, drawn from both Houses of Parliament.

The APPG allows for a lively debate between ministers, parliamentarians and young people. The group is supported by the British Youth Council, the National Council for Voluntary Youth Services, and the YMCA. Alongside a range of young people's organisations, they draw upon their membership to ensure that young people directly participate in the group; it is therefore an excellent opportunity to engage directly with young people and understand their concerns and aspirations.

This meeting of the Youth Affairs Group will cover school foods and healthy eating for young people. It will focus on how best to encourage healthy eating amongst young people and what can be done to promote a balanced diet, cooking skills and good food education. The meeting will be an interactive and informal forum which will encourage attendees to discuss their experiences of school food and how to encourage healthy eating amongst young people.

Prior to the meeting, there will be an hour long briefing session for young people. Following a quick briefing on how an APPG works, young people will work in small groups to formulate questions to the panel. Speakers do not need to attend this session.

The AGM of the group will take place at the beginning of the meeting. Officer of the group will be elected and the process will only take a few minutes.

The session will run in a "question time" format with each speaker given one minute to outline their views on promoting healthy eating for young people and then questions will be taken from the floor.
