Votes at 16
We believe that 16 and 17 year olds should be given the vote in
all public elections in the UK, because at 16 we are mature enough
to engage in and contribute to democracy. BYC is a proud supporter
of the Votes at
16 Coalition.
At the BYC Annual Council Meeting 2011 Shelly Harris from Welwyn
Hatfield Youth Council outlined why she thinks Votes at 16 should
be one of BYC's priority campaigns:
You can take action and help make Votes at 16 a reality. There
are lots of different ways you can get involved right away. From

you! The more of us who make ourselves heard, the louder the noise
will be, and the stronger our call for change.

Provide Safe and Affordable Public Transport for Children and
Young People
We believe that all young people across the UK should be able to
access safe and affordable public transport. We believe that young
people who can't access the public transport they need are being
discriminated against.
At the BYC Annual Council Meeting 2011 Tamanna Miah from Kent
Youth County Council outlined why she thinks transport should be
one of BYC's priority campaigns:

End Poverty in our Communities for Children and Young
People
We believe that children and young people should not have to
live in poverty in the UK; it is appalling and needs to be stopped
as soon as possible. Every young person should have a decent
standard of living, independent of their economic status.
At the BYC Annual Council Meeting 2011 Ellis Sheldon from
Council for Young People North East Lincolnshire outlined why he
thinks ending child poverty in our communities should be one of
BYC's priority campaigns:

Save Our Youth Services
Youth services and agencies support young people's personal
development, give them a meaningful role in society and provide
positive ways for young people to spend their time. We campaign for
all young people's services to be well funded and for existing
youth services to have funding priority over new initiatives. We
believe young people need youth services now more than ever.
Choose Youth!
BYC is part of Choose
Youth, an unprecedented coalition of young people,
volunteers, youth organisations, professional youth workers, and
community representatives who are working to save youth services.
We believe our youth service is too valuable for young people to
use.
