What do we want?

  • We want existing youth services to have funding priority over new initiatives, to ensure they are able to continue meeting the needs of young people.
  • We want the Government to recognise the value of youth services

We want existing youth services to have funding priority over new initiatives, to ensure they are able to continue meeting the needs of young people

Since 2010, youth services have suffered as a result of financial cuts and restrictions - thousands rely of young people rely on these services.  We believe properly funded youth services and agencies aid young people in their personal development and their ability to function in society.  We believe that youth services should have funding priority to ensure they are able to continue to meet the needs of young people.

We want the Government to recognise the value of youth services

Youth services are an important addition to young people's formal education. Youth services deliver a wide range of social and personal educational services to young people from sex and relationship advice to learning how to interact with peers. Youth services provide a supportive place for young people to become a force for good in society and we believe that the Government must recognise the difference these services make.

What can you do about it?

Write to your MP and ask them to support the campaign to save our youth services. (Don't know your MP? Find out here)

We want to promote the good work of youth services. We need you to use 150 words to tell us why youth services are important! Please email story to Francesca Danmole, Senior Policy, Campaigns and Training Officer (francesca.danmole@byc.org.uk)

We have teamed us with the National Union of Students (NUS) to help amplify the local youth voice.  Student Unions who have prioritised saving youth services will be lobbying MPs alongside local youth councils.

Why not come together to write an open letter to  your MP in local press to tell them about, the importance of youth services; why cutting the service is an issue for young people; and what needs to be done about it.

If you are a Local Youth Council who would like to find out if there is a student union that can connect with you on this action please email francesca.danmole@byc.org.uk.
