BYC Chair - Alex Delaney

Alex has been on the BYC board since 2008 and has represented the UK at the European Youth Forum. Alex attended Sussex University and gained a BA in English Literature and went on to train as a journalist at City University. For the last two years, she has worked at the charity TimeBank in the media team and uses her communications skills to encourage other people to volunteer their time. Alex recently started work for youth charity TAG who offer 18-24 year olds who are not in employment, education or training a six month 'journey' to help them achieve qualifications and secure jobs in the health and fitness industry.

BYC Vice-Chair (Campaigns & Communications) - Jack Rowley

Jack works supporting students and student officers to campaign at London School of Economics and University of the Arts London Students' Unions.

He has a history in campaigning, having also worked previously for Help the Aged, TimeBank and Student Action for Refugees. He graduated from University of Birmingham in 2007 with an MSc in Global Ethics and has also been involved in lots more, such as sitting on the Youth Leadership team for the BIG Challenge and being involved in the Young Achievers Award. All this makes for one very busy (but happy) bee!

BYC Trustee - Liam Preston

Liam is currently President of Canterbury Christ Church Students' Union, working towards enriching the experience for all students at the University.

Liam graduated from the University in 2008 with a Ba (Hons) in Film, Radio and Television. Whilst studying he helped establish and manage the first FM Community Radio Station in the UK to be run by students. He was also the South East England Officer for the Student Radio Association in 08-09. Liam is actively involved in the European Youth Forum representing the BYC and has been on the board since 2008.

BYC Trustee - Josh Snape

Josh, a sixth-former in Bury St Edmunds, is involved in a lot of volunteering besides BYC.

He sits on the committee of a local housing project and on the Bury Youth Council. He is part of the Suffolk Youth Action Team and is a local Boys Brigade leader. Josh also chairs his school's Justice and Peace group campaigning for a fairer society.

BYC Trustee - Mark Flynn

Mark joined the BYC board to play his part in encouraging young people to become actively involved in shaping their own futures.

Mark is a Panel member of the West Dunbartonshire Children’s Panel, and a Volunteer with SCIAF, Scotland’s largest international development aid agency. He has been volunteering as a student for many years.

BYC Trustee - James Slocombe

James is the current Head of Sixth Form at a large private International School, where he also teaches Business Studies and coordinates the International Award Scheme (Duke of Edinburgh's Award) for older students.

James has been working with the British Youth Council for many years, but in 2004 became a Trustee of the organisation. He has been a delegate at the Commonwealth Youth Forum, the European/Mediterranean Youth Parliament and the United Nations Youth Programme. For his leadership of BYC and the Scout Association, James was awarded life-fellowship of the Royal Society for the encouragement of the Arts, Manufactures and Commerce (FRSA) in 2004.

BYC Trustee - Ian Adderley

Ian has a history of activism starting with involvement in a local District Assembly and the launch of Connexions. Studying Law with Politics at the University of Hull he became active in the Students’ Union.

He also founded the Co-operative and Fairtrade Society and sat on the University’s Fairtrade Steering Group. Since graduating, Ian trained as a Barrister, and is now employed at Social Enterprise Yorkshire and the Humber; he is involved in politics as a member of the Labour Party and Co-operative Party.
 

BYC Trustee - Tim Coates

Tim works full-time as a professional political consultant and lobbyist in the City of London.

Tim has been an active campaigner on youth issues since his days as a student and has volunteered with BYC, been on its staff team (in 2006), and on the Board of Trustees since 2008, serving as Vice-Chair (Campaigns and Communications) 08-09. He is particularly involved with campaigning for better policies to tackle youth unemployment. Tim graduated from the University of Durham in 2006 and like to spend his spare time in museums, theatres or listening to music.

BYC Trustee - Leah Magoye

Leah grew up in Kenya and Namibia, moving to the UK for secondary school. She graduated from Edinburgh in June 2008 having completed an MA in Classics. Leah was awarded the Foreign and Commonwealth Office Windsor Fellowship and as Vice-President of the Edinburgh United Nations Youth and Student Association encouraged the participation of young people in global politics. 

Leah is currently building an online business called Enternships.com that provides a platform for students and graduates to find entrepreneurial internships in start-up companies.

BYC Vice-Chair (Participation & Development) - Elle Dodd

Elle has been a trustee of BYC since 2006, and now serves as vice chair participation and development. She has also been very involved in the Woodcraft Folk as a trustee and volunteer. As a student she studied government and economics at LSE which was useful since she is now an economist for the government. Elle said "seeing the changes that BYC creates, in individuals and society, makes me proud to be involved with such a unique organisation."

BYC Vice-Chair (Treasurer) - Alex Pott

This is Alex's first year on the Board after joining at the 2009 Annual Council Meeting as the new Treasurer.

As the treasurer, my hope for this year is that BYC rides the recession wave and gets stronger, campaining harder than ever for young people everywhere. I attended Sheffield University and gained a LLB in law, and am now training to be a chartered accountant with PriceWaterhouseCoopers. In 2008/09 I was the Finance Officer at Sheffield University Students' Union. I have also worked with young people through sport in the community projects - particularly my passion, sailing!
