Do you need help involving young people in the development of your organisation?
When it comes to consulting young people, BYC are perfectly positioned to help.
100% youth-led, we can help you to access the views and experiences of your target groups of young people around the UK. The diversity represented across the BYC youth network gives breadth and depth to our research and consultation work, whatever the brief.
We aim to put young people's own stories and experiences at the heart of public policy making and service development, using innovative 'young people friendly' approaches to meet the needs of client organisations and young participants alike.
Consultation techniques range from traditional surveys and focus groups to online polls and e-consulting, or even to creative art, dance and music workshops.
Whatever the context, BYC can engage with young people individually or in groups in the most appropriate and accessible way.

A few of our past projects...
BBC Trust
BYC contribued to a BBC Trust review of the BBC’s services for younger audiences. As part of the consultation, BYC arranged workshops in various UK cities that gave young people the chance to tell the trustees of the BBC what they thought of the service. BBC Trustee, Alison Hastings, who led the review said:
We would like to thank BYC for putting on several events as part of our review of the BBC's services for young people. These events gave young people across the UK the chance to tell the BBC Trust first hand what they thought of the BBC and services like Radio 1 and BBC Three. The findings from the BYC events were a valuable input to our review which we expect to improve BBC output for all young people
Department for Children, Schools and Families
Mapping the involvement of under 19s in public and voluntary sector decision-making (in partnership with the National Youth Agency and Loughborough University), to inform plans for long-term programmes embedding greater participation of children and young people in public decision-making in England.
The Governance Hub
In-depth research with young people who chair voluntary and community organisations, as part of a wider report into the additional resources needed to support charity chairs in their role.
UK EU Presidency
Responding to a brief from the British Council, the former DfES and the European Youth Forum, BYC helped formulate key messages for European Youth Week via a music-based consultation event. Outputs included graffiti walls, vox-pops and workshops, with the support of high profile hip-hop, rock, and R'n'B artists.
Low Pay Commission
A UK-wide consultation with 14-17 year olds in education, employment or training, looking at the impact of national minimum wage legislation on the working aspirations and activities of young people aged 16-17. We achieved a 50% response rate to a mailing of 5000 questionnaires.
Learning and Skills Council
Researching 14-19 year-olds attitudes, perceptions and experiences relating to post-16 participation in education and training via surveys and focus groups.
The Community Fund
Exploring the experiences and perceptions of young people on medical and social developments to help tackle disadvantage, via paper questionnaires and workshops with young people with experience of social exclusion.
